Sam Houston Statue Visitor Center

Add to plan Remove from plan

David Adickes created the idea of the colossal statue as a tribute to General Sam Houston. The goal was to have the statue ready by March 2, 1993 for the 200th birthday of Sam Houston. However, construction took more time than he thought and the dedication didn't happen until October 22, 1994. Standing proudly on a 10-foot Texas sunset granite base, the statue of Sam Houston can be seen from 6.5 miles away. You can also pick up a souvenir or locally crafted item from the gift shop located within the visitor center.
